Queens:
Flushing
While New Orleans is credited as the "birthplace of
jazz," Queens is known as the "home of jazz."
Queens was the residence of choice for such immortals
as Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie,
Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, Billie Holiday, and scores
of contemporary jazz musicians. Beginning at historic
Flushing Town Hall, newly restored as a multi-cultural
arts center, visitors will explore the incredibly
diverse neighborhoods of Flushing. Local musicians
and historians lead this award winning walking and
bus tour. Participants may choose to stay on for a
free evening of live jazz, dance lessons, and a "soul
food" dinner.
