SESSION TOURS
Queens:
Long Island City
The Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum in conjunction with
the Socrates Sculpture Park will host a session focusing
on sculptural space. The two organizations located
on the Queens side of the East River have long called
Long Island City their home. Sculptors Isamu Noguchi
and Mark di Suvero moved their studios to this industrial
area in the 1960's. Today, the Socrates Sculpture
Park exhibits large-scale contemporary sculpture by
emerging international artists, and the Noguchi Garden
is a permanent exhibition of the renowned artists'
work. The collections and settings of these neighbors
will inform our conversation about the role of art
in urban landscape and planned environments.
