  • "Icebreaker Exercise" for all conference attendees

  • Welcoming Keynote Ray Suarez (11:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon)
  • Awards Luncheon (12:15 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.)
  • Breakouts on Characteristics 1-10: Information gathering with experts, followed by the facilitated breakout segment. (1:45 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.)
    • The arts bring diverse people together.
    • Elected officials understand the importance of supporting the arts and do so.
    • The arts are valued as a critical component of learning for all children-including youth at-risk-and for adults both in the classroom and in other educational settings.
    • Active participation in culture creates individual and community meaning.
    • Business people and corporate citizens recognize that the arts are important to a healthy business environment, and are involved in the arts in diverse ways.
    • The arts are infused in the natural and built environments.

    (8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.)

  • Breakouts on Characteristics 1-10: Information gathering with experts, followed by the facilitated breakout segment. (9:00 a.m. - 12:15 a.m.)
    • The arts bring diverse people together.
    • Elected officials understand the importance of supporting the arts and do so.
    • The arts are valued as a critical component of learning for all children-including youth at-risk-and for adults both in the classroom and in other educational settings.
    • People value and are aware of the various opportunities to participate in the arts.
    • Business people and corporate citizens recognize that the arts are important to a healthy business environment, and are involved in the arts in diverse ways.

    • The arts are integral to civic dialogue and community residents recognize the civic value of investing time and financial resources in the arts.

  • ARTventures (2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.):
    Participants travel to one of 11 communities throughout the area to experience the impact the arts have on the community (neighborhood revitalization, economic development, live/work spaces, etc.)
  • Slam / Jam (10:00 p.m. - Midnight)

Monday July 30, 2001

  • Bookstore, Technology Lab (All Day)
  • Continental Breakfast arranged in Job-Alike Peer Groups
    (8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.)
  • Animating Democracy Sessions (10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.)
  • Keynote Speaker (12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.)
  • Lunch on your own (1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.)
  • Closing Session (3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.)
  • Closing Reception at The Metropolitan Museum of Art
    (7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.):
    Buses depart from the New York Marriott Marquis starting at 6:15 p.m. and will be shuttling back and forth until 10:00 p.m.

Tuesday July 31, 2001
