BOARD, STAFF, AND BEYOND:
ARTS LEADERSHIP IN THE CHANGING COMMUNITY

A preconference to the first joint convention of Americans for the Arts and the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies

July 26-27, 2001
9:00 am - 5:00 pm (both days)
Marriott Marquis Hotel, New York, NY

What leadership is needed for the arts to thrive in our communities? Americans for the Arts and NASAA invite you to participate in a two-day exploration of this question. Join your national, regional, state, and local colleagues in a facilitated discussion that will result in concrete suggestions for how you can develop and sustain stronger and more effective leadership in the arts field. Organization board, council, and staff members are encouraged to attend.

Through the use of both presentations and open-space technology, attendees will focus on the following issues:

  • The synergy between artistic excellence and competent administration.
  • The role of hierarchy within an organization.
  • Planning for the future.
  • The role of an organization in the community.
  • Attracting and mentoring new leaders.
