BOARD, STAFF, AND BEYOND:
ARTS LEADERSHIP IN THE CHANGING COMMUNITY
Open Space Technology
A process
that has been used by businesses and government and community agencies over the past ten
years, Open Space provides a fluid group format that enables individuals to explore ideas,
network with colleagues, make decisions, and take action. Through Open Space, attendees
will be able to either convene or participate in small groups on any important topics related
to the preconference theme.
The Open Space design
is just what the words imply: time and space to meet in whatever configuration seems most
appropriate in order to for attendees to identify and act on the ideas, issues, questions,
and information that are most relevant to their needs. How well and productively all this
works will depend on two factors: the talents/resources of the people who come, which we
know will be extraordinary, and their willingness to seek out new ideas.
An important element
of Open Space is responsibility. The preconference simply will not work if attendees are
not present at the beginning to join in setting the agenda, or if they come and go during
the two days. So, please come with your ideas, passions, problems, stories, and creativity-ready
to join in making a learning community.
