EVENING EVENTS
Opening Reception at the Torpedo Factory Art Center
Saturday, July 17
6:30 p.m.–8:30 p.m.
Sponsored by Altria Group, Inc.
Join Americans for the Arts and the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies in celebrating pARTicipate2004, our second joint convention, at the Torpedo Factory Art Center.
Located on the Potomac River in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, the Arts Center was built in 1918 as a factory for the U. S. Navy to manufacture torpedo shell cases. Today it occupies a $4 million renovated facility that includes studios for more than 165 artists, five cooperative galleries, the Target Gallery, and the Alexandria Archaeology Museum.
During our private reception, meet some of the artists and watch
as they create all kinds of artwork—including painting, pottery, photography,
digital arts, musical instruments, jewelry, stained glass, fibers, printmaking,
and sculpture.
After the reception, stroll along the waterfront, window-shop on nearby historic streets, or eat at one of the area's many fine restaurants and enjoy the ambience of Old Town Alexandria.
For more information on the Torpedo Factory Art Center, visit their

The occasion enabled Washington to begin earning a reputation as a cultural hub as well as a political one. Enjoy the wonderful views of Washington, Virginia, and the Potomac River from the Center’s Roof Terrace, where you will be enchanted by live performances, fantastic food, and great conversation, and walk away with great memories of your time in Washington.
